40 Foot Croc Rocks Cork St. Patrick’s Day Parade
A 40 Foot Crocodile complete with Peter Pan and Captain Hook pirates is just one of the large line up of 2,100 colourful parade participants who will take to the streets of Cork this St. Patrick’s Day, presented by Cork City Council, for the parade which kicks off at 1pm.
This year’s theme is Ships to Shore – celebrating Cork’s maritime culture. Some of the parade participants include Cork Circus pirate stilt walkers and mermaids, Naomhoga Chorcaí life size Transformers, Batton Swinging Jetsetters Majorettes and Sproai‘s Croc Attack 40 ft Crocodile as well a whole range of community, voluntary, defence force personnel and pipe and brass bands.
Valerie O’Sullivan, Director of Services, Recreation, Amenity and Culture said: “Over 50,000 people came in to the parade last year and it was a phenomenal success. We expect even bigger numbers this year. The Band of the First Southern Brigade will lead out the parade followed by fellow army, navy, veteran and defence force personnel and marching band with our Grand Marshal Lisa Cummins closely behind, “she said.
The parade starts at 1pm from the top of South Mall at Parnell place and will travel down South Mall onto the Grand Parade, winding around St. Patrick’s Street and finishing at the end of Merchant’s Quay. The Grandstand will be located in front of Carey’s Lane on Patrick’s Street.
Additional events taking place on Patrick’s Day include the Barry’s Tea Food Market open from 10am to 6pm at the boardwalk Grand parade and free outdoor concerts from headline acts The Roaring Forties and Soul Driven after the parade at the main stage at Nano Nagle Bridge, the Grand Parade in the heart of the market.
